adrastea discovered david c. jewitt , g. edward danielson in voyager 2 probe photographs taken on july 8, 1979, , received designation s/1979 j 1. although appeared dot, first moon discovered interplanetary spacecraft. after discovery, 2 other of inner moons of jupiter (thebe , metis) observed in images taken few months earlier voyager 1. galileo spacecraft able determine moon s shape in 1998, images remain poor. in 1983, adrastea officially named after greek nymph adrastea, daughter of zeus , lover ananke.


although juno orbiter, arrived @ jupiter in 2016, has camera called junocam, entirely focused on observations of jupiter itself. however, if goes should able capture limited images of jupiter moons metis , adrastea.
