martins left uc santa barbara after 2000 season play now-defunct san diego flash of a-league. drafted 56th overall in 2001 a-league draft, catching eye of colin clarke, after putting in stellar performances uc santa barbara , getting green card during senior year. after demise @ end of 2001 season, martins joined fellow a-league team minnesota thunder, scored 2 goals in 11 appearances. martins subsequently released , moved third a-league side in pittsburgh riverhounds. pittsburgh, martins hit stride, scoring 8 goals in 576 minutes on 8 games. martins shined in 2003 season, during scored 22 goals , had 7 assists in 25 games riverhounds. performances, named a-league mvp. after end of a-league season, martins joined major league soccer team d.c. united.

with united, played in 5 games before end of season. while training following 2003 season, martins tore left acl. after extensive rehabilitation process saw him close returning team, tore acl again. result, martins missed of united s 2004 season. after season, martins selected 17th overall club deportivo chivas usa in 2004 mls expansion draft. scored first goal in club history in second match, 3–3 draw san jose earthquakes. martins went on score 2 more goals during season.


martins traded metrostars, partial allocation, ante razov in january 2006. played 1 game re-branded new york red bulls before again being traded, time colorado rapids, peguero jean philippe. @ conclusion of season, signed fk bodø/glimt of adeccoligaen in norway.

against tippeligaen side tromsø il, scored 2 goals in fk bodø/glimt s 3–1 away win in last game before 2007 campaign. martins suffered knee injury in game , not 100% when made bodø/glimt debut in obligatory match on 9 april 2007, away hønefoss bk. martins contributed new club becoming top-scorer scoring in play-offs. result, martins , fk bodø/glimt gained promotion norwegian tippeligaen 2008 season. martins had year fk bodø/glimt in 2008, , finished fourth though injured of season. however, success did not last long , glimt relegated @ end of 2009 after poor season in tippeligaen. 2010 started promising fk bodø/glimt in adeccoligaen, initial form declined, , ended in sixth place. martins contract expired @ end of 2010, , fk bodø/glimt decided not offer him new deal. subsequently retired professional soccer.
