the first record of ferry across humber dates 1315 when warden , burgesses of hull granted charter king edward ii run ferry between hull , barton in lincolnshire. pedestrians halfpenny each, horses 1 penny , cart 2 horses twopence.
the corporation of hull purchased leases £3,000 in 1796 (£266,020 in 2015) , both relet in 1815.

in 1845 great grimsby , sheffield junction railway bought out ferry services £10,000 (£892,207 in 2015). barton upon humber service withdrawn in 1851.
the railway company built new pier @ new holland 1,500 feet (460 m) in length railway station, allowing direct connection ferry service. new holland pier railway station opened on 1 march 1848.
the management transferred british transport commission in 1948 , on 1 january 1959 management of transferred associated humber lines.
