league stage

during league stage, lasts twenty matches, each team plays against every other team once, plus, around middle of season, match against 1 team deemed have derby-like relationship. league table follows normal european league table, 1 point ties , 3 points win. top 8 teams advance playoffs.


playoffs

the playoffs have been organized in 2 different ways on course of short tournaments. first organized dividing 8 teams 2 groups play home , away games; then, 2 group winners play final. in later years, playoffs organized in pairs , play direct elimination in home , away games until 2 teams reach finals.


finals

the finals involve 2 games. team highest overall points achieved during league stage gets play second game in home stadium; if aggregate points same, home game determined goal difference. team highest aggregate score after both home , away games wins , awarded championship. if games end in tie, there no additional time , proceeds directly penalty shoot-out. away goals rule not used.


relegation

relegation primera based on averaging system. @ end of each season, 2 teams worst three-year average relegated primera b.


superliga colombiana

previous start of every season, winners of previous year s apertura , finalización tournaments face each other off in superliga colombiana.
