around 50 german firms have own branch offices in iran , more 12,000 firms have own trade representatives in iran. several renowned german companies involved in major iranian infrastructure projects, in petrochemical sector, linde, basf, lurgi, krupp, siemens, zf friedrichshafen, mercedes, volkswagen , man (2008).


in 2005 germany had largest share of iran s export market $5.67 billion (14.4%). in 2008, german exports iran increased 8.9 percent , comprised 84.7 percent of total german-iranian trade volume. overall bilateral trade volume until end of september 2008 stood @ 3.23 billion euros, compared 2.98 billion euros previous year. value of trade between tehran , berlin has increased around 4.3 billion euro in 2009 4.7 billion euro in 2010. according german sources, around 80 percent of machinery , equipment in iran of german origin.


the german chambers of industry , commerce (dihk) has estimated economic sanctions against iran may cost more 10,000 german jobs , have negative impact on economic growth of germany. sanctions hurt medium-sized german companies, depend heavily on trade iran. there has been shift in german business ties iran long-term business short-term , large mid-sized companies have less business interests in , less prone american political pressure. around 100 german companies have branches in iran , more 1,000 businesses work through sales agents, according german-iranian chamber of industry , commerce.
