limoneira employs sustainable practices in virtually each aspect of day-to-day business , has made strategic investments in solar, water, soil , ipm (integrated pest management).

solar

in 2008, limoneira completed 2 state-of-the-art solar projects. first, @ company headquarters in santa paula, ca., 5.5-acre photovoltaic orchard generates full megawatt of electricity. representing one-third of company’s total use. solar energy powers limoneira’s lemon-packing house , storage facility. in tulare county town of ducor, 150 miles north of santa paula, limoneira installed 4 smaller solar arrays generate full megawatt of electricity power 250-horsepower motors pump deep water reservoirs irrigation of 1,000 agricultural acres. estimated that, on expected 25-year lifespan, limoneira’s solar generation of 84 million kilowatt hours save @ least 64,000 tons of greenhouse gases have otherwise been emitted ordinary oil- or coal-firing power plant.

organic recycling

in 2004, limoneira company partnered agromin create innovative organic recycling program. agromin manufacturer of premium soil products , green waste recycler more 50 communities cities in los angeles, orange, santa barbara, , ventura counties. limoneira , agromin developed 10-acre facility on limoneira land receive green materials (lawn clipping, leaves, bark, plant materials) throughout ventura county. material converted mulch spread in limoneira orchards curb erosion, improve water efficiency, reduce weeds , moderate soil temperatures.

integrated pest management
