farah ahmedi born in kabul, afghanistan near end of soviet war in afghanistan. when in second grade, stepped on land mine while taking shortcut through field school. farah transferred germany leg amputated. after on eighteen months in germany, returned home in kabul. shortly after returned home, father , 2 sisters killed stray rocket while farah , mother shopping fabrics, , 2 brothers left afghanistan in order avoid draft. fearing lives, farah , mother fled pakistan endured harsh conditions in refugee camps couple years before world relief rescued them , provided them home in chicago, illinois. in chicago, farah , mother began adjust new life, major alyce litz, 1 of farah s new friends.
