in capital city of manila, power knocked out, resulting in many downed trees, , numerous landslides reported. city suffered widespread flooding left 6,000 homeless, no casualties reported. suburb of marikina, however, sustained worst impact of manila suburbs typhoon, river overflowed banks, , 15,000 people reported homeless. according press reports, water levels in 1 subdivision of suburb 2.5 m (8.2 ft) high, forced homeowners either hang on oil containers, trunks of banana trees, , other debris stay afloat, or climb rooftops of few two-story homes in marinka. throughout city, 11 casualties reported. continental airlines dc-10 jetliner, carried 251 passengers hawaii, skidded while landing during heavy rain , overshot runway @ manila airport, 24 hour rainfall total exceeded 250 mm (9.8 in).
