the han people originated in mainland china. each han subgroup associated particular region in china; cantonese originated in western guangdong, putian in puxian, foochow in fuzhou, hoklo in southern fujian, chaoshan/teochew in eastern guangdong, hakka in eastern/central guangdong , shanghainese in shanghai.

macau
macau, hong kong has han (cantonese) majority. according cia world factbook, 85.7% of macanese speak cantonese.
the term macanese people can either refer macau, or macanese of mixed cantonese , portuguese descent.
