upon returning home in 1921, found tredegar iron & coal company refused re-employ him. did not find work until 1924 , employer, bedwellty colliery, closed down ten months later. bevan had endure year of unemployment. in february 1925, father died of pneumoconiosis.
in 1926, found work again, time paid union official. wage of £5 week paid members of local miners lodge. new job arrived in time him head local miners against colliery companies in become general strike. when strike started on 3 may 1926, bevan emerged 1 of leaders of south wales miners. miners remained on strike 6 months. bevan largely responsible distribution of strike pay in tredegar , formation of council of action, organisation helped raise money , provided food miners.
