since 1990s, sudanese refugees second sudanese civil war have settled north of dungu in 2 refugee camps, kaka , kaka ii, set oxfam quebec, implementing partner of unhcr in democratic republic of congo.
in september 2005 joseph kony s lord s resistance army (lra) entered dungu territory sudan , set in garamba national park. since october 2008, following attacks lra, médecins sans frontières has had team in dungu wounded , health needs of displaced, followed other international relief ngos such solidarités, oxfam quebec, cesvi, coopi, danish refugee council , medair. in december 2008 lra attacked town of dungu, resulting in inhabitants temporarily fleeing.
according august 2009 report of radio okapi, 100,000 people in dungu territory have been displaced fighting.
