according u.s. census bureau, county has total area of 864 square miles (2,240 km), of 692 square miles (1,790 km) land , 172 square miles (450 km) (20%) water.


cayuga county located in west central part of state, in finger lakes region. owasco lake in center of county, , cayuga lake forms part of western boundary. lake ontario on northern border, , skaneateles lake , cross lake form part of eastern border. cayuga county has more waterfront land other county in state not adjacent atlantic ocean.
