males , females: upperside van dyke brown, darker, in female, towards apex of forewing.
male. forewing: costal , 2 preapical spots white. hindwing: ocelli (eyespots) of underside showing through, forming 2 or 3 obscure black spots; 2 slender subterminal black lines. underside paler, shaded dark brown. forewing: narrow subbasal , outer cellular transverse sinuous white lines; irregular broad discal , narrower postdiscal band white, forming v, latter bearing series of 4 blind, dusky-black, fulvous-ringed ocelli; 2 preapical white spots on upperside. distinct slender subterminal whitish , broader terminal ochraceous lines. hindwing: subbasal transverse sinuous white line; postdiscal arched series of 6 black ocelli, centres disintegrated, inner ring ochraceous, outer brown, , whole series bordered inwardly , outwardly lilacine (lilac-coloured) white lines; slender white subterminal , broader ochraceous terminal line on forewing.
female upperside differs in having broad, oblique, white, discal band on forewing , spot below posterior end in interspace 1, inner border of band bi-emarginate, outer irregularly sinuous. underside in male, markings more pronounced, white discal band on forewing prominent. antennae, head, thorax , abdomen brown; antennae preapically black, @ apex ochraceous.
