the bloody 19th century in stockholm starts lynching of marshal of realm axel von fersen on 20 june 1810 outside of bonde palace in gamla stan. story behind event seen in political disorder occurred following death of gustav iii , exile of heir gustav iv adolf. marshal of realm, von fersen had close relationship gustav iii, , subsequently beaten death angry mob, following death of new crown prince charles august. guards posted outside palace did not intervene.


axel von fersen , sister sophie von fersen gustavian loyalists, sought install exiled prince gustav, son of gustav iv adolf crown prince. when crown prince charles august died of stroke in 1810, position yet again vacant. parts of nobility had exiled gustav iv adolf did not wish see exiled king s son successor. when charles august died, rumors spread regarding possible poisoning of charles august, , von fersens responsible.
