clinton governed under town form of government mayor , six-member town council. mayor directly elected voters four-year term of office. members of town council elected three-year terms of office on staggered basis, 2 seats coming election each year in three-year cycle. governing body chosen at-large in partisan elections held part of november general election. primary responsibilities of council serve legislative body of town, approve annual budget presented mayor, approve payment of bills , serve liaisons several boards , committees.


as of 2016, mayor of clinton town democrat janice kovach, term of office ends on december 31, 2019. members of clinton town council ken carberry (r, 2017), sherry dineen (r, 2018), marty pendergast (r, 2017), alfred d. rylak (r, 2016; appointed in september 2013 fill vacancy of megan jones-holt, in turn had been appointed in february 2013 fill vacancy of rich duffy), robert b. smith (r, 2016) , beth sosidka (r, 2018).

clinton fire department (cfd) located on corner of new street / old route 22 in clinton. 15% of department s calls annually involve actual fire, while rest of cfd s calls broken down 15% motor vehicle accidents, 15% hazardous conditions, 5% service calls, 25% intent calls no fire found , 25% alarm activations/false alarms, averaging 190 calls annually. department offers 3 types of membership namely active firefighter, junior firefighter , associate membership prospective members. department runs mutual aid calls annandale hose company, high bridge fire department, quakertown fire company, lebanon fire company , pattenburg fire company , other fire departments in hunterdon country, have become invaluable resource large incidents. division of fire municipal fire department , responsible fire related incidents in township. personnel provided all-volunteer annandale hose company #1. there 2 fire stations. 1 located @ 68 beaver avenue , second located @ 1215 route 31 south. our apparatus consists of 4 engines, 2 command vehicles, 1 tower ladder, 1 tanker, , 2 brush trucks. department covers area of on 30 square miles , respond around 500 incidents each year. department has 45 active members respond calls. each new member trained state firefighter standards, , equipped meet national standards. our members put in hundreds of hours each year in classes, training , drills. seeking volunteers not firefighting other administrative duties.

new jersey s seventh congressional district represented leonard lance (r, clinton township). new jersey represented in united states senate democrats cory booker (newark, term ends 2021) , bob menendez (paramus, 2019).

as of march 23, 2011, there total of 1,671 registered voters in clinton, of 439 (26.3%) registered democrats, 529 (31.7%) registered republicans , 700 (41.9%) registered unaffiliated. there 3 voters registered other parties.
