Humanitarian Response to the LRA Crisis Dungu, Democratic Republic of the Congo

following torrential rains in oriental province in northern d.r. congo in november 2012, destroyed thousands of houses in dungu, monusco engineering unit built alternative road across jungle connect town airfield, , facilitate humanitarian access area.


the lra crisis has affected whole of haut-uele district, , dungu used main base of operations most, if not all, international , local humanitarian organizations, including monuc , un agencies.


although medair, terre sans frontières, msf suisse , solidarités present prior beginning of lra crisis in mid-september 2008, many non-governmental organizations set bases , projects in various fields in january 2009. these ngos switzerland (medair), denmark (drc – danish refugee council), italy (cooperazione internazionale or coopi , cesvi), canada (oxfam quebec, terre sans frontières), united states (mercy corps) , united kingdom (oxfam great britain); international committee of red cross (icrc), international sovereign organisation, present. local , national ngos, such caritas drc (known locally caritas développement congo) adsse , cdjp, active in dungu.


the united nations has presence in dungu, of agencies , monuc firmly established in town since march 2009. 2 peacekeeping battalions (moroccan , indonesian) ensure security road maintenance, while agencies such ocha, unhcr, unicef, fao, wfp , undp (through pooled fund program) act donors , coordinators of humanitarian response. detachment of bangladesh air contingent (banair) operates under monusco 3 helicopters in dungu.
