Station layout Grand Avenue–Newtown (IND Queens Boulevard Line)



entrance @ broadway


there 4 tracks , 2 side platforms here. in between local tracks , express tracks, there trackway walls. station has full length mezzanine, fare control , booth area @ center of mezzanine, crossover available @ easternmost staircase.


both platforms have medium cerulean blue tile band black border small grand captions in white lettering on black background beneath them. have name tablets reading grand ave. newtown shown beneath in white sans serif lettering on black background , cerulean blue border. concrete-clad columns painted cadet blue run along both platforms @ regular intervals alternating ones having standard black name plates in white lettering.


exits

each side has 2 sets of street stairs, full-time entrance @ grand avenue , broadway on west end. there 2 additional staircases crossovers; however, these closed @ night. heet access @ both ends of mezzanine allow people exit fare control without having walk down middle of mezzanine. originally, there 2 fare control areas @ each end, clear presence of 2 closed staircases @ manhattan-bound side. mezzanine narrows two-thirds of width on southern side of mezzanine directly opposite of closed staircases. narrowing of mezzanine did not allow staircases on queens-bound side in location on manhattan-bound side. chain-link fence used separate area inside , outside fare control. in total, side of station has 4 staircases in addition 2 closed ones mentioned, while other side has 5 staircases.
