a fleet of pcc streetcars san francisco, philadelphia, , newark, built between 1946 , 1948, operate on line. of august 2007, muni operating 27 of these cars, restored various states of service. among restored cars in service, 3 original san francisco double-ended pcc cars. 16 cars single-ended cars acquired septa in philadelphia in 1992 (which continues operate 18 cars today, retrofitted ada compliance), while remaining 11 cars single-ended cars acquired new jersey transit in newark in 2002.


muni has 30 unrestored pcc cars in long-term storage. unrestored cars include 5 additional san francisco double-ended cars, 10 san francisco single-ended cars, 12 single-ended cars acquired st. louis in 1957, 2 single-ended cars philadelphia, , 2 single-ended cars pittsburgh. further restored car philadelphia written off after traffic accident in 2003.


many of restored cars painted in color schemes of prominent past , present pcc streetcar operators, including muni , other transit systems.
