male upperside rich dark brown. forewing oblique short white discal fascia on underside showing through, 2 obscure black spots or ocelli, followed 2 prominent white spots, upper 1 double, black markings margined outwardly pale dusky brown along terminal margins of both forewing , hindwing , obscure subterminal pale line on latter.

underside dark blackish brown; wings crossed subbasally slender lilacine-white straight line, followed on forewing oblique short white discal fascia, , on both forewing , hindwing postdiscal series of large black ocelli , terminal, ochraceous, narrow band bordered on inner side more or less silvery purple line. series on both forewing , hindwing margined inwardly , outwardly silvery purple lunular lines, on forewing curved inwards, on hindwing curved outwards; ocelli on forewing confluent, black, non-pupilled, on hindwing black disintegrate silvery-speckled irregular centres on brown ground.

lethe europa tamuna de nicéville race described little nicobar. michael lloyd ferrar (1948) reported seeing great nicobar island in 1931. has been rediscovered in recent times in campbell bay area of great nicobar. both adults , larvae found along roadsides in disturbed forests. seen breed on bamboo dinochloa andamanica kurz. eggs laid on leaves deep inside clump , never on fringes.
