one of dominant goaltenders in nha , nhl, vézina led canadiens 5 stanley cup finals appearances, won title twice. 7 times in career, vézina had lowest goals-against average in league played, , had second-best average 5 times. when joined canadiens in 1910, until being forced retire in 1925, vézina never missed game nor allowed substitute, playing in 328 consecutive regular season games , additional 39 playoff games. though played bulk of career in era when goaltenders not leave feet make save (the rule changed in 1918), vézina regarded 1 of greatest goaltenders in hockey history; montreal standard referred him greatest goaltender of last 2 decades in obituary.
