melbourne began 2006–07 hyundai a-league season hoping vastly improve on 7th place in inaugural season. coach ernie merrick had made number of off-season signings bolster squad skill , experience including 3 brazilians alessandro, claudinho, fred along scottish premier league player grant brebner. after hugely successful round 2 fixture against sydney fc @ telstra dome (now etihad stadium) in front of crowd of 39,730, melbourne victory announced move 1 match olympic park telstra dome. melbourne became first team complete a-league double in history of competition; clinching premiership against new zealand knights 4–0 @ olympic park 4 rounds of a-league season remaining, beating adelaide united 6–0 in grand final @ sold out telstra dome take championship. melbourne qualified 2008 afc champions league a-league champions.
