352d tfs north american f-100d super sabre 56-3413, 1960.


on 25 september 1957 tactical air command (tac) activated 352d fighter-day squadron , assigned 354th fighter-day wing @ myrtle beach air force base, south carolina. squadron equipped north american f-100 super sabre.


the 354th wing committed nato support, , squadron deployed europe. deployed adana air base, turkey in july 1958 in response crisis in lebanon, support pro-western government of lebanon, believed threatened internal dissension supported united arab republic. squadron returned in october.


after lebanon crisis, tac began rotate combat squadrons incirlik air base, turkey , aviano air base, italy in support of nato alert commitments , air force weapons training @ maniago range. 352d, along 354th wing s other squadrons periodically supported these rotations.


during berlin crisis precipitated erection of berlin wall german democratic republic in august 1961 , subsequent face-off of american , soviet tanks in berlin, squadron deployed hahn ab, german federal republic, in november 1961. once tensions eased, squadron returned in march 1962.


the squadron deployed third time in response cold war crisis, time deployment closer home. during cuban missile crisis of 1962, 352 tfs deployed mccoy afb, florida in october became part of forces attached air division, provisional, 2d. after crisis ended, 352d returned home in december.
