history
in 1917, mohave county union high school opened @ site. later became known kingman high school. in 1993, new kingman high school north campus opened sophomores, juniors, , seniors. freshmen attended old ( south ) school. population of kingman continued grow, kingman north became permanent high school. kingman south converted white cliffs middle school. kingman high, campus built 1,600 students, houses 2,059 students. overcrowding necessitated second high school.
construction
at start of february 2010, workers began gut old white cliffs. (the middle school moved brand new campus.) $22 million, 17-month project began convert, remodel, , update white cliffs new, second comprehensive high school kingman. main white cliffs campus, or building , stripped of wiring, plumbing, , wall panels. cafeteria demolished , replaced new one, , new campus quad installed. (the gymnasium, listed on national register of historic places, remains, complemented new auxiliary gym.) asbestos removal (the piece of project not done local contractor) performed.
another component of remodel refurbishing of old auto shop career/technical education use, including metalworking , other arts classes. renovation preserved elements of past, such mohave county union high school 1917 monument sign, aforementioned gym.
part of football field , 1 section of bleachers located on site of old pioneer cemetery. of graves relocated in 1944, due cost of re-interment, number of unclaimed bodies remain. during construction of high school, workers digging trench behind bleachers unearthed 7 coffins along personal items such cuff links , jewelry. memorial stone honors 350 settlers buried in pioneer cemetery.
construction expected finish july 1, 2011. however, district did not possession of site until october 3 because of americans disabilities act compliance issues.
delayed opening
as arizona s budget situation worsened, concern on whether kingman unified school district had funds operate lee williams emerged. decision pushed march 2011; @ time, , 3-2 vote, district voted not open school 2011-12 school year. worries included additional budget cuts school district.

opening
on february 21, 2012, kingman unified school district governing board voted in 3-2 decision, despite continuing concerns on finances, open lee williams high school freshmen. cost $800,000/year operate lee williams high school.
immediate enrollment projections kingman unified school district see school 1,010 students in 3a conference. expected both schools have equal enrollment on time.
