in 2006, latiolais , colleagues proposed cladogram (tree of descent) attempts show phylogenetic relationships of 34 species within family strombidae. authors analysed 31 species in genus strombus (including strombus canarium) , 3 species in allied genus lambis. cladogram based on dna sequences of both nuclear histone h3 , mitochondrial cytochrome-c oxidase protein-coding gene regions. in proposed phylogeny strombus canarium, strombus vittatus (a synonym doxander vittatus) , strombus epidromis (labiostrombus epidromis) closely related, , appear share common ancestor.
