jauss attended school @ amherst college, teammate of future mlb general manager dan duquette.
he captain of both baseball , basketball teams @ amherst. received b.a. in psychology , m.s. in sport management isenberg school of management s mark h. mccormack department of sport management @ university of massachusetts amherst.
jauss served head baseball coach @ westfield state college in 1982–84, , atlantic christian college in 1985–87.
professional career
in 1988, when duquette became montreal expos director of player development, jauss hired field coordinator jerry manuel manager in expos farm system. between 1988 , 1994, jauss managed gulf coast expos, west palm beach expos, , harrisburg senators. compiled record of 188–151 in role , named eastern league manager of year in 1994. managed winter baseball in dominican republic , led licey caribbean series title in 1999. winter, jauss named manager of year. in 1995, jauss field coordinator player development of baltimore orioles, , following year, became advance scout boston red sox, reunited duquette.
major league baseball
in 1997, named red sox first base coach, position held between 1997 , 1999. there met grady little serving team s bench coach @ time. jauss served red sox minor league field coordinator 2000–01. in 2001, jauss became red sox bench coach; then, in 2002, director of player development , 2003–05 red sox major league advance scout, playing role in club s 2004 world series triumph.
in 2006, named bench coach of dodgers under manager grady little, position held through 2007. during 2008–2009 seasons, bench coach baltimore orioles. jauss left orioles after 2009 season bench coach new york mets in 2010; then, in november 2011, named pirates professional scouting staff, serving 1 season before returning coaching.
