after rest day in besançon, low mountain stage began in department of doubs, headed jura , finished in ain. stage departed besançon , had racing officially starting south-west of avanne-aveney. route headed south-west arc-et-senans , turned south through chamblay, arbois, montrond , pont-du-navoy intermediate sprint @ charcier. southerly route continued through les crozets , chassal before entering jura mountains. first climb of day category 3 climb of côte de rogna @ 766 m (2,513 ft), , category 3 climb of côte de choux @ 834 m (2,736 ft), followed category 4 climb of côte de désertin. there approximate 10 km (6 mi) descent before climb of côte d Échallon @ 969 m (3,179 ft). stage finished 19 km (12 mi) descent oyonnax.
