players can organize corporations (similar guilds or clans in other mmos). corporations run 1 chief executive officer (ceo) controls corporation s assets. ceo assigns roles corporation members such director, accountant , personnel manager. corporations may band form alliances. corporations , alliances come in different shapes , sizes. player groups write press releases new business openings , send out ipo information potential in-game venture capital investors. alliances can control enough star systems territory can plotted on eve online game map. alliances based in lawless space form unofficial political power blocs other alliances. these power blocs typically referred coalitions . unlike formally established alliances, coalitions similar in nature japanese keiretsu—an informal business arrangement in several corporations band provide mutual financial, military and/or industrial support.


corporations take numerous business models such mining, manufacturing or ratting (hunting npc pirates bounties , loot). corporations can levy income taxes on members, skim off percentage of every member s earnings. many corporations offer variety of benefits members, such free or discounted ships, equipment, formal training, , organized corporate group operations.


among many activities corporations can organize piracy. actions considered piracy involve breaking in-game law, , can come in variety of forms. pirates may camp stargates waiting other players arrive, attack players operating in asteroid belts or hunt players carrying out npc agent-assigned mission. because these activities considered illegal within game mechanics, pirate characters have low security status , may branded outlaws concord. likewise, victims of overt piracy may retaliate without intervention concord, via expressed right destroy pirate ship (i.e., kill right ). although piracy activities illegal within game universe, not against rules of game, i.e., there in-game retaliation , punishment them.

during 2 weekends in july 2006, live streaming video production called eve tv covered events of 2nd caldari alliance tournament. tournament pitted three-man teams top alliances against each other. eve tv provided live in-game footage of battles along expert commentary. analysis of teams , strategies, interviews ccp staff , behind-the-scenes specials aired between battles. eve tv produced , hosted djs eve-radio (a player-run streaming radio station) resources provided ccp. total of 95 matches scheduled, band of brothers alliance emerging winner.


the first 2 weekends in december 2006 saw 3rd alliance tournament. once again broadcast via live streaming video eve tv tournament saw 40 alliances pitting five-man teams against each other. once again, band of brothers alliance emerged winner. of particular note in tournament fielding of imperial apocalypse interstellar alcohol conglomerate. ship destroyed in semi-finals of tournament cow (cult of war) team. last-minute attempt arrange 8 billion isk ransom ship fell through.

the fourth alliance tournament in september 2007 brought several upsets, star fraction defeating band of brothers in second round, using tech 1 cruisers, , hun reloaded sweeping both semifinals , finals win.


the 2 weekends starting february 29, 2008, , march 7, 2008, saw fifth alliance tournament. eve tv provided coverage via live streaming video. during 6 days total of 40 teams competed in 95 matches. last tournament s winner, hun reloaded, made way quarter-finals lost ev0ke alliance, later became tournament champion after having won 8 of matches.


the sixth alliance tournament held during 3 consecutive weekends starting january 24, 2009, , ending on february 8, 2009. total of 64 teams took part in qualifying rounds on opening weekend. while final weekend broadcast live via eve tv, qualifying rounds broadcast through various eve online radio channels. number of changes made tournament rules. first tournament factional militias able take part alongside traditional alliance teams. in final match, r.u.r. went against pandemic legion pandemic legion emerging tournament winner.


alliance tournament 7 took place in september 2009, pandemic legion winning second successive tournament, beating circle of 2 in final. alliance tournament 8 took place in june 2010, pandemic legion winning third time, beating hydra reloaded, while alliance tournament 9 took place in june 2011, hydra reloaded winner in uncontested final match against outbreak.


alliance tournament 10 took place on 4 consecutive weekends in july 2012. 64 teams took part in tournament, matches being broadcast live on eve tv. number of changes made format of matches, included increasing maximum number of pilots 10 12. verge of collapse crowned champions, defeating alliance tournament 4 winners hun reloaded in final. alliance stunned beating top teams claim title of champions.


alliance tournament 11 took place during 3 weekends in july , august 2013, pandemic legion beating exodus. in loser s bracket, coming 2-0 score in best of 5 match against hydra reloaded win 3 matches in row , win fourth alliance tournament, , first victory since alliance tournament 8.


volunteer program

the interstellar services department (isd) group of volunteers, made of subscribed players, assist in variety of tasks answering questions players, bug hunting , qa testing, covering player-driven news, , writing game fiction. includes ecaid (equipment certification , anomaly investigations division), star (support, training , resources), ic (interstellar correspondents), m (mercury), ccl (community communication liaisons), , yarr (yulai archives & records repository team).
