in sophomore season, jones started 13 games. during season opener against san diego state, jones defended 2 passes, career-high. on october 3 on against stanford, had 3 tackles , sacked quarterback andrew luck, forcing fumble recovered. finished season 4 sacks, , 11 tackles loss, earned him sophomore all-america honorable mention honors college football news.


in 2010, jones missed entire season due fracturing right foot in fall camp. returning injury next season, again started every game team , named hendricks award watch list, given annually best defensive linemen in college football. during game against california, had career-best 2 sacks. jones led bruins in tackles 41, while topping team 6.5 tackles loss , 3.0 sacks.


in final year team, continued starter , named chuck bednarik award watch list, given annually best defensive player in college football. during game against nebraska cornhuskers, jones had career best 3 tackles loss , given credit forcing safety. later in season against houston, matched career-high 3 tackles loss , caught seven-yard touchdown pass. later on against rice, jones had 6 tackles , matched career high 2 sacks. when bruins faced california, jones had 5 tackles (four solo),a sack , blocked point. @ end of year, jones selected second-team all-conference league coaches. finished 148 tackles (90 solo), 36.5 tackles loss, 13.5 sacks, 5 passes defensed, 4 forced fumbles , 1 fumble recovery. selected play in all-star senior bowl.
