cappadocia lies in central anatolia, in heartland of turkey. relief consists of high plateau on 1000 m in altitude pierced volcanic peaks, mount erciyes (ancient argaeus) near kayseri (ancient caesarea) being tallest @ 3916 m. boundaries of historical cappadocia vague, particularly towards west. south, taurus mountains form boundary cilicia , separate cappadocia mediterranean sea. west, cappadocia bounded historical regions of lycaonia southwest, , galatia northwest. due inland location , high altitude, cappadocia has markedly continental climate, hot dry summers , cold snowy winters. rainfall sparse , region largely semi-arid.
