june – battle of anchialus: emperor constantine v sends byzantine expeditionary force (800 ships , 9,600 cavalry) thrace, defend fortress city of anchialus on black sea coast. meanwhile, telets, ruler (khagan) of bulgarian empire, blocks mountain passes , takes positions on heights near anchialus. during desperate cavalry charge ,the bulgars defeated , many captured; telets manages escape. constantine enters constantinople in triumph, , kills prisoners.

august – byzantine troops invade papal states, in alliance king desiderius of lombards. king pepin iii ( short ) intervenes, , begins negotiations between lombards , pope paul i. desiderius promises end hostilities, on condition pepin sends lombard hostages held franks.

november 18 – forces of tibetan empire, under trisong detsen, occupy tang capital of chang (modern xi an) 15 days, , install puppet emperor. tibetans take on horse pastures.
