male upperside dark vandyke brown; forewing uniform: hindwing postdiscal series of 3 or 4 blind black ocellar spots. underside, brown; forewing below vein 2 , terminal margin paler, broad band across cell, wing medially , @ apex suffused lilac, bearing incurved postdiscal series of five, blind black ocelli. hindwing: subbasal , discal narrow transverse lilac bands, former sinuous, latter angulated on vein 4, , arched postdiscal series of black fulvous-ringed ocelli, disintegrate centres; wing medially suffused lilac, ocelli lilacine lunules on both sides. forewings , hindwings slender lilacine subterminal , broader ochraceous terminal lines.


female similar, ground colour paler; broad oblique white discal bar , 2 white preapical spots on upperside of forewing; large, rectangular, black subterminal mark in interspaces , white spot above , below it, on upperside of hindwing. underside similar underside in male, markings more prominent, lilac, ochraceous , brown shades paler; broad discal bar on forewing, on upperside, joined vertical lilacine white band bearing series of ocelli.


on hindwing brown transverse discal band broadly produced between veins 4 , 5. antennae, head, thorax , abdomen brown; antennae ochraceous @ apex.


wingspan 64–68 mm.


found in southern india , sri lanka.
