Festival Sathya Vageeswarar Temple, Kalakkad
the temple follows saivite tradition. temple priests perform pooja (rituals) during festivals , on daily basis. @ other shiva temples of tamil nadu, priests belong shaivite community, brahmin sub-caste. temple rituals performed 4 times day: kalasanthi @ 8:30 a.m., uchikalam @ 11:30 p.m., sayarakshai @ 6:00 p.m., , sayarakshai between 8:00 - 8:00 p.m. each ritual has 3 steps: alangaram (decoration), neivethanam (food offering) , deepa aradanai (waving of lamps) both sathya vageeswarar , gomathi. there weekly, monthly , fortnightly rituals performed in temple. temple open 6am - 12 pm , 4-8:30 pm on days except during new moon days when open full day. vaikasi visakam festival during tamil month of vaikasi (may - june) being prominent. during festival, temple chariot drawn around streets of kalakkad, festival images of sathya vageeswar , gomathi housed in it. other festivals sivarathri, thirukalyanam (sacred marriage) , kanthasasthi celebrated.
