the earliest route polyamide-imides condensation of aromatic diamine, such methylene dianiline (mda) , trimellitic acid chloride (tmac). reaction of anhydride diamine produces intermediate amic acid. acid chloride functionality reacts aromatic amine give amide bond , hydrochloric acid (hcl) by-product. in commercial preparation of polyamideimides, polymerization carried out in dipolar, aprotic solvent such n-methylpyrrolidone (nmp), dimethylacetamide (dmac), dimethylformamide (dmf), or dimethylsulfoxide (dmso) @ temperatures between 20-60 °c. byproduct hcl must neutralized in situ or removed washing precipitated polymer. further thermal treatment of polyamideimide polymer increases molecular weight , causes amic acid groups form imides evolution of water.
