in years 1103-1104 synod held participation of papal legate associated retrieval , placing of precious relics of st. adalbert in cathedral. few years later, duke bolesław iii wrymouth donated substantial sum of money preservation of tomb structure. in year 1127 celebrations held in cathedral commemorating st. adalbert. in 1175 famous bronze gniezno doors placed in cathedral , 2 years later, duke of greater poland, mieszko iii old, visited site.
after 219 years, in 1295, penultimate royal coronation of prince przemysł ii took place @ cathedral of gniezno. 5 years later, czech prince wenceslaus ii of bohemia forcibly entered town , crowned king. last royal coronation held in gniezno. in 1331, teutonic knights pillaged , destroyed temple. ten years later, on same site of former cathedral, gothic temple built under personal supervision of archbishop jarosław bogoria skotnicki. same archbishop welcomed king casimir iii great, donated substantial sum of money , contributed reconstruction of gniezno. @ end of fourteenth century construction of chancel , large nave completed. in 1419 archbishops of gniezno given title of primate , represented country in rome cardinals. first appointed primate of poland , cardinal mikołaj trąba.
in 1613 fire destroyed spires, roof , 2 frontal towers of temple. 7 years later, adam of wągrowiec came cathedral try out newly installed pipe organs. in years 1641-1652 primate maciej Łubieński conducted reconstruction project of interior in baroque style. in 1760, fire broke out resulted in collapse of both towers, star vault chancel. in next few years interior rebuilt in classical architectural style small elements of diminishing baroque style. reconstruction initiated primate władysław aleksander Łubieński.
