in second game against new york mets, zimmermann won second game in many starts, becoming first nationals/expos pitcher win first 2 starts of career since randy johnson did in 1988. coincidentally, zimmermann losing pitcher in johnson s historic 300th win on june 4, 2009.


zimmermann experienced elbow pain, , in july landed on disabled list. after attempted rehab, in august 2009 zimmermann diagnosed torn ulnar collateral ligament , underwent tommy john surgery, expecting miss 18 months. finished rookie season of 2009 going 3–5 4.63 era in 16 starts.
