previous tenants have included albany firebirds (formerly albany conquest) of af2, original albany firebirds of afl, albany patroons of cba, albany choppers of ihl, albany river rats of ahl, albany attack of nll , new york kick of npsl ii.


the times union center regularly hosts exhibition games of major sports leagues. nba, wnba , nhl have played games @ arena.


the pbr hosted built ford tough series event @ arena in january 2008.


in center s tennis event, andre agassi played john mcenroe 3 days after agassi won u.s. open in 1994.


starting in 2018, afl return albany currently-unnamed new team.


ice hockey

the times union center home american hockey league 1993, when albany river rats became building s primary tenant until 2017. river rats won calder cup championship in 1994–95.


on april 24, 2008, longest game in history of american hockey league took place @ times union center. ryan potulny scored winning goal philadelphia phantoms @ 2:58 of fifth overtime period after 142 minutes , 58 seconds of hockey, played on 5 hours , 38 minutes. in process, river rats goaltender michael leighton set modern-day record making 98 saves.


following river rats relocation charlotte, n.c., in 2010, albany devils began play in ahl.


it announced on january 31, 2017, devils relocate binghamton following completion of 2016–17 season ending 24 years of ahl hockey in arena. @ time of relocation, devils drawing lowest average attendance in league.


college sports

the times union center hosted ecac hockey championships each march 2003 until 2010, when league announced tournament moved boardwalk hall in atlantic city, new jersey; , home annual metro atlantic athletic conference basketball tournament (1990–96, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008–10, , 2015).

in 2003, times union center hosted ncaa basketball east regional, won syracuse university on way first national championship. arena hosted first , second rounds of 1995 ncaa men s division basketball tournament knickerbocker arena.


in 2008, times union center hosted ncaa ice hockey east regional tournament. arena has hosted ice-hockey regionals in even-numbered years since 2004 , hosted again in 2010, eighth time east regional has been held @ site.


in 2000, times union center hosted regional quarterfinal between st. lawrence university , boston university, went quadruple overtime; becoming longest game in history of tournament , second longest game in division men s college hockey history (it third longest game).


the times union center hosted frozen 4 on 2 occasions, in 1992 (as knickerbocker arena) when lake superior state university defeated wisconsin national championship, , again in 2001 pepsi arena when boston college defeated north dakota.


the venue set host ncaa women s basketball tournament march 28 31, 2015 , ncaa hockey east regional ninth time march 25 27, 2016.they hosting ncaa march madness east regional in 2018

the times union center has been regular host of nysphsaa wrestling championships since 2005 , has won bid host annual event each year through 2018. according albany county convention , visitors bureau, wrestling state tournament annually contributes more $1.5 million capital region economy, , in 2011 second-largest sporting event in albany county.
