born montenegrin father , belgian mother, popović raised in titograd, made name in zagreb, moved in 1977, pursuing career in pop music.

in 1983, regional representative of croatia (tv zagreb), won right represent yugoslavia @ eurovision song contest song džuli ( julie ). national victory unexpected because observers saw popular folk singer lepa brena, regional representative of vojvodina (tv novi sad), clear favourite.

daniel achieved 4th place in munich, equaling @ time best ever yugoslav placing @ eurovision song contest (lola novaković s 4th-place finish in 1962). džuli huge hit in yugoslavia: album sold 717,166 copies while single sold further 80,883 – huge number yugoslavia in both cases. song big hit in many other european countries well, including norway, daniel played several venues. in 1984, performed @ nrk broadcast tv show prior sarajevo winter olympics, playing džuli , new song called miss .

in january 2007, reported daniel take part in croatian pre-selection eurovision song contest, dora, son sebastian (20) , daughter isabella (16), snježana ivana pandl (17). song did not make final selection process. in late 2009, contestant on kmetija reality show, slovenian version of farm.
