this outermost fluoride rich layer of enamel removed when tooth polishing provided. mineral components of saliva , polishing pastes containing fluoride can assist in remineralizing outer layer. enamel surface strong enough withstand repeated tooth polishing, should avoided on newly erupted teeth, exposed root surfaces , areas of demineralization. if polishing occur on these surfaces, fluoride therapy can minimize risk of dental caries. excessive pressure can lead frictional heat may cause pulpal discomfort or necrosis of dental pulp.
