this long , undulating stage travelled through departments of marne, meuse , meurthe-et-moselle. stage departed Épernay, race officially starting @ oiry. route first headed east through châlons-en-champagne, sainte-menehould , clermont-en-argonne , continued on course charny-sur-meuse. route turned south-east before travelling through douaumont , continued in direction through moulainville , fresnes-en-woëvre. intermediate sprint took place @ hannonville-sous-les-côtes , south-easterly route continued through bernécourt. route turned east dommartin-lès-toul , 2 category 4 climbs came towards end of stage, these côte de maron , côte de boufflers. stage finished in nancy.
