menuhin married twice. married nola nicholas, daughter of australian industrialist, , sister of hephzibah menuhin s first husband lindsay nicholas. had 2 children, krov , zamira (who married pianist fou ts ong). following 1947 divorce married british ballerina , actress diana gould, mother pianist evelyn suart (who had played artists such eugène ysaÿe , karel halíř), , stepfather admiral sir cecil harcourt. menuhin , gould had 2 sons, gerard , jeremy, pianist. third child died shortly after birth.


the name yehudi means jew in hebrew. in interview republished in october 2004, recounted new internationalist magazine story of name:

menuhin died in martin luther hospital, berlin, germany, complications of bronchitis.


soon after death, royal academy of music acquired yehudi menuhin archive, includes sheet music marked performance, correspondence, news articles , photographs relating menuhin, autograph musical manuscripts, , several portraits of paganini.


interest in yoga

some have considered menuhin important populariser of yoga in west. in 1953, life published photos of him in various esoteric yoga positions.


in 1952, menuhin in india, nehru, first prime minister of india, introduced him influential yogi b. k. s. iyengar, largely unknown outside india. menuhin arranged iyengar teach abroad in london, switzerland, paris , elsewhere. became 1 of first prominent yoga masters teaching in west.


menuhin took lessons indra devi, opened first yoga studio in us, in los angeles, in 1948. both devi , iyengar students of krishnamacharya, famous yoga master in india.
