paryushana parva 1 of important festival jains. paryusana formed 2 words meaning ‘a year’ , ‘a coming back’. festival comes in months of shravana , bhadra (august or september). svetambara jains celebrate eight-days while digambara jains celebrate ten days. known das lakshana parva. festival of repentance , forgiveness. many jains fast , carry out different religious activities. jain monks stop walking during chaturmas , reside @ 1 place lecture on various religious subjects during paryushana. festival believed remove accumulated karma of previous year , develop control on new accumulating new karma, following jain austerities , other rituals. there regular rituals @ jain temples. discourses of kalpa sutra given monks. kalpa sutra describes life of mahavira , other tirthankaras. on third day, procession of kalpa sutra carried out. on fifth day, auspicious dreams of trishala, mother of mahavira demonstrated , after birth of mahavira celebrated. tenth day of festival called anant chaurdsashi. anant chaturdashi day when lord vasupujya attained moksha(nirvan). usually, procession taken out jains on day. kshamavani observed day after anant chaturdashi digambaras,while shwetambaras observe after 8th ie last day of paryushan.(last day called samvatsari) on kshamavani, jains ask forgiveness acts during previous year may have hurt them.
