the governing council of burmese buddhism has ruled there can no valid ordination of women in modern times, though burmese monks disagree. in 2003, saccavadi , gunasari ordained bhikkhunis in sri lanka, becoming first female burmese novices in modern times receive higher ordination in sri lanka.
