the speedlite 430ex , speedlite 430ex ii external flashes made canon use eos line of cameras. 430ex ii meant succeed 430 ex , announced on june 10, 2008, while speedlite 430ex first announced on 22 august 2005. flashes can used wireless slave unit canon speedlite transmitter st-e2 or top-of-line flashes built-in infrared controller, such speedlite 550ex, speedlite 580 ex or speedlite 580ex ii.


the flash head can swivel (to 90°), right (to 90°) , left (to 180°). swivel properties allow photographer bounce flash off walls, ceilings, , other objects, diffusing light hits subject , reducing harsh shadows associated on-camera flash.


both flashes support ttl, e-ttl, , e-ttl ii flash metering , have guide numbers of 141 ft/43m (at iso 100 , 105 mm).


the speedlite 430ex ii improved on predecessor adding stronger, metal foot quick release mechanism, silent flash recycling, 20% shorter recycle times , support setup through camera s menu system.


the speedlite 430ex iii-rt announced in july 2015 , expected ship in september 2015.
