built in 1905, current virginia street bridge fifth in series of bridges have been built in downtown reno. first wooden bridge built in 1860 charles w. fuller , hence called fuller s crossing. after destroyed flood, second bridge, toll bridge, built , sold myron lake in 1861, although in 1867 destroyed flood. though replaced yet bridge, became unneeded after arrival of transcontinental railroad. in 1877, washoe county authorized creation of new tied-arch bridge made of iron. in 1905, iron bridge moved , current bridge, designed san francisco architect john b. leonard, built cotton brothers , company of oakland, california.
