Events British occupation of the Faroe Islands







on 20 june 1940, 5 swedish naval vessels arrived in faroe islands. 4 (psilander, puke, romulus, , remus) destroyers bought italy, 1 civilian passengers; fifth (castor) tanker converted military status. britain seized ships under armed threat, , moved them shetland islands. although sweden neutral country , not @ war britain, british feared germany seize them if continued sweden. after political negotiations sweden secured return. british navy had stripped equipment , caused damage ships, britain later gave compensation for. swedish commander criticized other swedish officers conceding ships without resistance.
