the shing mun country park visitor centre, situated near maxicab terminus. 22°23′05″n 114°08′37″e / 22.38464°n 114.14368°e / 22.38464; 114.14368coordinates: 22°23′05″n 114°08′37″e / 22.38464°n 114.14368°e / 22.38464; 114.14368 provides displays on origin , history of shing mun, reservoir , mining industry in 20th centuries. animals , mineral specimens on display. video programmes on country parks , countryside conservation matters shown in visitor centre @ regular intervals.


shing mun arboretum

the shing mun arboretum, occupies 14 square kilometres, situated in country park. extends shing mun reservoir road in south. western border lies in tai mo shan, while grassy hill , needle hill mark eastern margin. there 7000 plants, belonging on 270 species (which native hong kong or southern china) in arboretum. plants include collection of bamboos, protected plant species, plants named after botanists, plants first discovered in hong kong , camellias found in hong kong countryside, etc.


other facilities

at park entrance large information board , direction post have been erected, providing visitors information , guidance. barbecue facilities provided throughout areas south , south-east of reservoir, near dams. toilets, refreshment kiosk, rain-shelters, warden posts, jogging trails, nature trail, viewcompasses , many other facilities provided. sections 7 , 8 of maclehose trail run through park smugglers ridge in south-east of park route twisk in west. campsite provided near lead mine pass trail hikers.
