comstock high school, 1906-1941


a high school established @ comstock village school in 1906 following consolidation of comstock school district 5 neighboring districts. prior 1906, students in comstock township had travel kalamazoo or galesburg attend high school. 8 students graduated comstock school in 1908, making comstock s first high school graduating class. conflicts between residents in community led dissolution of consolidated district in 1916, including high school @ comstock school.


comstock school expanded in 1921 construction of new middle school adjacent old school. new high school established in older building , renamed comstock high school. gymnasium , auditorium constructed on campus in 1937 through public works administration project. in 1942, new high school building built adjacent middle school. 44-year-old comstock school torn down following year.


following construction of new general motors fabrication plant fisher body in comstock township, new high school , football stadium built, stand present high school. since construction in 1966, high school campus on 26th street has seen improvements on years including construction of 750-seat community auditorium in 1992, , new 3,500 seat athletic stadium in 2007.


in 2005, voters rejected 26-year bond proposal replace current high school, opting instead renovate building.
