in 1969 randolph–macon defeated university of bridgeport (connecticut) 47–28 in inaugural knute rockne bowl laying claim shared college division ii national championship wittenberg university (springfield, ohio) had defeated william jewell college in first amos alonzo stagg bowl. 4 teams had been chosen ncaa compete in first ever playoffs established division ii schools. no complete playoff set until 1973. 1969 football team inducted college s hall of fame in 2004. 1968 team perfect 9-0 record remains undefeated , untied football team in school history. yellow jacket football team coached pedro arruza , won odac championship in 2008 , 2016. of nov 2013 football team had posted record 7 seasons winning record under coach arruza. football team plays home games @ day field.
