the village can trace history norman conquest. moletune listed in domesday book of 1086 being among estates of baron richard de vernon of shipbrook. george ormerod described village in 1882 thus: moulton occupies high ridge of ground, running parallel general course of weaver, , commanding extensive view on vales of river, , of mersey, in several directions of delamere forest , lancashire.


during 19th century character of village changed purely agricultural more mixed economy. many workers in salt mining industry, lined banks of river weaver, made homes in moulton. factory owners built terraced housing in church street , regent street employees.


after second world war industry declined new methods of abstracting salt solution mining replaced old fashioned pumping of wild brine , attendant subsidence. village became residential area folk working in nearby northwich or winsford. new housing development in mid-1960s increased population on 60%.


during second world war, moulton bombed several times. on 1 occasion, german bombers fire-bombed down backs of regent street houses, thereby missing dwellings , resulting in no casualties.


moulton thriving community of 3,000 people. local hall run st stephen s church , host range of organisations including excellent moulton drama group, live music put on innovative community music group, malt n music while moulton adventure group provides wealth of activities young people.


moulton school provides primary education children of village. school has strong links local secondary school, county high school leftwich, converter academy.


moulton home moulton verdin f.c., plays in mid cheshire sunday league.
