the lake formed akosombo dam, conceived geologist albert ernest kitson in 1915, construction began in 1961 completion in 1965. because of formation of lake volta, 78,000 people relocated new towns , villages, along 200,000 animals belonging them. 120 buildings destroyed, not including small residences, on 3,000 square miles (7,800 km) of territory flooded.
